A Large Burmantofts Style Jardeniere Glazed Pottery c. 1895 ANTIQUE
This exceptional jardeniere, or plant pot, was made around the end of the 19th century. Made by the finest craftmen, with tasteful glazing tints of burgundy and green with gilded detailing. Its exterior features elaborate decorations of flowers, acanthus leaves, cherubs and two lion mask handles. The planter pot is raised on three haired lion paws.
This striking piece of majolica ceramic is similar to some of the designs by the Burmantofts Pottery in Leeds. Made of English majolica, a type of earthenwear that features high relief mouldings of bold naturalistic designs with bright and vibrant glazing.
This fine piece is in good condition and ready for immediate use. It has suffered a few mishaps over the last 125 years. The rim shows signs of at least one repair and areas of wear to the glazing and gilded lining. Under the rim is some glaze pooling. The painted decoration on the exterior and the lion feet show some glaze wear consistent with age. Designed for indoor use only.
An opulent piece of antique pottery, large in size, to create a focal point in interiors old and new.
