A Pair Of Oak Candlestick Holders Arts And Crafts Movement ANTIQUE
This pair of candlestick holders is a great example of work produced during the Arts and Crafts period of the late 19th Century. The Movement 'rebelled' against the Victorian manufacturing methods that churned out 'novelty without beauty and beauty without intelligence. The Arts and Crafts instead had a preference for natural materials such stone, wood, and fabrics such as linen and wool, ideally locally sourced.
In fact what could be more honest than a beautiful piece of English oak as used for the candlestick holders that we have currently available. Skilfully turned with a cylinder shaped stem and a sturdy yet elegant looking stepped base. We love the eye-catching roundel, a decoration that is placed halfway up the stem. The top of the stick has a lovely cup shape which is is fitted with a brass holder as detailing for placing and holding a candle.
This pair of Arts and Crafts oak candlesticks are in excellent condition. Made with perfect proportions they will be suitable for home interiors old and new.
