Buste Girard Female Torso Shop Mannequin & Stockman Stand ANTIQUE
High quality female torso made by the top French maker Girard in the 1920's. Situated on the Rue de Ribeval in Paris, award and medal winning E. Girard became well known for their exquisitely shaped busts and mannequins. Chosen by retailers and couture houses, the firm's realistic looking forms were the ideal backdrop for the display of their corsets and dresses.
This is the Buste Girard version, number 210, made in Euro size 44 / UK 16. Still carrying its original wooden finial and arm covers in a lovely warm pine. Formed most likely from paper mache and still wearing its original covering with manufacturer, retailer and sizing stamps.
This female shaped mannequin was commissioned and used by London firm R. D. Franks, a fashion specialist bookshop established in 1877 (sadly now closed). It came to us fitted onto a later display stand, ironically made by rival Parisian firm Stockman. Painted in striking black and embossed with the Stockman name around the centre column.
Both mannequin and metal shop stand are in excellent condition. The cover is completely undamaged, however, it shows discolouration and is marked with some small stains. There are signs of wear and use on the wooden sections. The black paint of the display stand has some worn areas. In other words the mannequin and stand have a sought after and desirable vintage look to them.
