Fly boxes by specialist maker Richard Wheatley have gained a special place in the heart of many fishermen. Since the 1860's their products have been produced with the highest levels of skill and craftsmanship. From early on specialist fishing tackle retailers such as Farlows have stocked Wheatley fly boxes in their shops.
This vintage example of an aluminium fly box with a distinct satin finish was manufactured by Wheatley during the 1960's. It was retailed by C. Farlow & Co of London it is branded with the firm's label. The exterior is engraved with a Wheatley logo in a lozenge shape with Made in England confirmation. This logo is known as the small 'Made in England' logo which came into use in 1966. The back of this slimline clip box carries the well known Silmalloy logo.
This 6" fly box is made with an interior space for 69 flies (49 small and 20 large clips). A beautiful collection of vintage salmon fishing flies (single and double hooked versions) is also included. Useable today for fly fishing or for display in your home.
In excellent condition: interior and exterior show signs of use and marks of wear. Hinges are undamaged, opens and shuts well and keeps all contents safe.
