Country House Canterbury Storage Box Georgian Style 1900's ANTIQUE
Handsome canterbury designed in the Georgian style that was made during the early 1900's. A quality piece, made of mahogany and designed with curved edges and dovetail detailing on each of the four corners.
This storage box features two open compartments with baize lined walls and thin brass edging strips. The divider in the centre has a beautifully curved top with a cut-out handle. The design is based on the Georgian taste, raised off the ground with a stepped foot for each corner of the box. Attached to two opposite sides are the original lion mask ring handles.
The canterbury is a well made and classic piece of furniture designed for storing items in the home. Originally for keeping sheet music in, this open topped stand with dividers quickly found a use for storing magazines and newspapers.
The canterbury storage box that we have currently available on our website can be used for a multitude of different items. The cloth covered compartments keep books and albums damage free as well as out of the way but could also be used for keeping a laptop or tablet safe. It could even be used for the storage of at least 8 bottles of your favourite drink!
This item is in good condition ready for its new home. The box is well made and solid, please note it has a fair bit of weight to it. There are normal signs of wear and usage as expected with antiques. Carefully cleaned inside and out, it has received a wax and polish. An elegant and above all super-functional piece of furniture, that should not be missing from any (country) home!
