Fox Parasol Camel Canopy & Blackthorn Handle & Tassel VINTAGE
A pre-1960's parasol that has recently undergone a full restoration by Fox Umbrellas. This skilled work was carried out in their London workshop, most likely in the same building that this Fox umbrella product with its Paragon frame was originally constructed.
This exquisite vintage Fox umbrella is fitted with a striking blackthorn handle.This slow growing type of wood is from a tree species that can be found in scrub, copses and woodland. Every blackthorn handle has its own shape and gives every parasol its own unique look. Due to its hardwearing qualities it is also the choice of wood for the Irish shillelagh.
The knob is fused onto a wooden shaft which end is protected with a metal ferrule. This length of wood has developed a slight curve over the years. During the restoration process it was decided to retain this user history as it does not affect the usage of this piece.
Designed with a classic domed shape canopy. The metal frame is made of strong Sheffield steel. This has been adjusted and factory serviced by the restorer.
Re-fitted with a brand new waterproof canopy in a stylish warm neutral camel colour with hand sewn detailing. The shaft was personalised by the original owner with a lovely original tassel.
This fine vintage Fox parasol measures 36 inches in length, a modern day version by Fox is of a shorter length.
Mr Thomas Fox opened in 1868 a shop in the City of London to sell umbrellas. Fox Umbrellas have built a worldwide reputation for umbrellas that are made to the highest levels of quality. In excellent condition, fully functioning, showing attractive wear on all wooden surfaces. A fine piece of British craftsmanship.
