Fox Umbrella Dark Green & Partridge Wood Handle & Gold Collar 18ct VINTAGE
A pre-WW2 piece that has recently undergone a full restoration by Fox Umbrellas. This skilled work was carried out in their London workshop, which is most likely the same building that this Fox umbrella with its Paragon frame was originally constructed.
This exquisite vintage Fox umbrella is fitted with a Partridge wood handle. This hardwood has a striking appearance that is created by the contrasting bands of light and dark wood. This distinctive grain pattern resembles the markings on the partridge's wing. It is a heavy and dense wood. Hence it is difficult and challenging to work with and finish cleanly. This might be the reason why this choice of wooden handle is no longer available today from Fox's. But Partridge wood is also extremely durable, hence it is the ideal choice for an umbrella's handle.
The metal frame, made of strong Sheffield steel, has been factory serviced. Re-fitted with a brand new waterproof canopy in a stylish dark green colour.
The shaft was personalised by the original owner with a collar plated with 18ct hallmarked gold. The collar is unmarked and can be engraved with the new owner's initials. The hallmarks accurately date this beautiful vintage umbrella by Fox to 1958.
Mr Thomas Fox opened in 1868 a shop in the City of London to sell umbrellas. Fox Umbrellas have built a worldwide reputation for umbrellas that are made to the highest levels of quality. To consistently achieve this the company relies on skilled hand workers, and not a machine, to construct their reliable yet stylish products.
In excellent condition, fully functioning, showing few signs of wear. A beauty!
