Fox Tube Umbrella Navy & Mallaca Handle & Gold Collar 9ct VINTAGE
A post-WW2 piece, dating from the mid 1980's, that has recently undergone a full restoration by Fox Umbrellas. This skilled work was carried out in their London workshop, which is most likely the same building that this Fox umbrella with its Paragon frame was originally constructed.
This exquisite vintage Fox umbrella is fitted with a mallaca handle. Although with the appearance of a hard wood, the handle is in reality a slender but strong stem taken from the Asian rattan palm (Calamus Scipionum), native to Sumatra and Malaysia. Its durable metal frame, made of strong Sheffield steel, has been factory serviced. Re-fitted with a brand new waterproof canopy in stylish navy.
The shaft was personalised by the original owner with a collar plated with 9ct hallmarked gold. The collar is unmarked and can be engraved with the new owner's initials.
Mr Thomas Fox opened in 1868 a shop in the City of London to sell umbrellas. Fox Umbrellas have built a worldwide reputation for umbrellas that are constructed to the highest levels of quality. To consistently achieve this the company relies on skilled hand workers, and not a machine, to construct their reliable yet stylish products.
In excellent condition, fully functioning, showing few signs of wear.
