Georgian Bronze Pestle And Mortar c. 1780's ANTIQUES
An elegantly shaped mortar dating from the reign of King George the Third. Mainly used in an apothecary or kitchen for the preparation of ingredients for medication or cooking recipes.
Cast of solid bronze, this antique mortar stands 11cm (approx. 4.25 inches) tall. When tapped with the finger or other object, the sound is clear as a bell. We love the two slim bands that decorate the middle of the mortar.
A beautiful metal pestle, likely made of solid brass, is part of this set. It measures 19cm (7.5 inches approx.) in length.
Objects like this pestle and mortar set, even though made back in Georgian times, are still so practical in today's kitchen. Alternatively they look fantastic on display, perhaps with other kitchenalia, in decors old and new.
