Large Damascene Jewellery Box Walnut & Inlay Syrian 1950’s VINTAGE
Highly decorative walnut box designed for storing jewellery and keepsakes. The lid and outer panels of the box are covered with geometric shapes, symbols and patterns from the Middle East. All intricately inlaid with the smallest pieces of material, such as mother of pearl, wood, animal bone and brass. Typically made in the region of the oldest capital of the world, Damascus.
Once the top is opened, a striking and luxurious interior of the box becomes visible. The inside of the lid shows off more high quality inlaid detailing set against beautiful dark wood. The storage area is fabric lined with a scarlet red baize with the top edging finished with fine braided cord. The case is fitted with a working lock that is operated with a lovely ornate key.
Ideal for use or display in a home environment, and also great for use as display in a shop or other business interior. For certain this eye-catching piece will create a real talking point. The box is practical and useful too. Although originally designed to store jewellery it can be utilised for so many things. Will fit well into older as well as new interiors.
Condition is excellent, with desirable signs of use and aging, some small areas of loss and wear. Supplied with key, working lock.
