A large Doulton Ware baluster vase, made in the Lambeth Pottery, in an exquisite Art Nouveau design. From the mind and hand of Doulton's most-revered designer and decorator Eliza Simmance. Fully marked and dated 1906.
Art Nouveau, an ornamental movement of art, flourished between 1890 and 1910. Its central inspiration was the natural world with its flora and fauna. Eliza Simmance designed and hand decorated (with assisted help) this graceful vase in 1906 at the height of this 'New Art' period. Formed in a classic baluster shape with a flared rim dressed with a stylised row of flowering trees on a mottled background. Pure Art Nouveau with its flowing lines and nature inspired motifs.
A highly collectable vase by Eliza Simmance, of unusual size, in fine condition with no visible damage.
