Sterling Silver Sugar Sifter Spoon Joseph Rodgers Sheffield 1906 ANTIQUE
Sterling Silver Sugar Sifter Spoon Joseph Rodgers Sheffield 1906 ANTIQUE
This well made antique sugar sifter spoon was made during the Edwardian period by the famous silversmiths of Joseph Rodgers in Sheffield. The business was established by Joseph Rodgers back in 1682 and quickly became well known for his fine silverware. The firm received royal recognition and subsequently supplied George IV, William IV, Queen Victoria, Edward II and George V.
This sugar sifter spoon from 1906 carries the Kings pattern design that requires slightly heavier gauge of silver. The regal look is a well known decoration created back in the 1830's and has been in use ever since. The pattern is single struck on the front of the spoon. The handle shows a shell and honeysuckle decoration. The elegant bowl of the spoon is formed into the shape of a shell and features a finely pierced surface.
Made of sterling silver with clear and deep hall marks that show a crown mark for Sheffield, a lion passant, year mark 'o', manufacturer's mark 'JR' as well as the star and cross trademark for Joseph Rogers.
The condition of the silver spoon is good with crisp piercing.
