American artist Sue Wall (1950 - present) painted in the late 1970's this striking rendition of a Victorian house in the Italianate style. Working from her New York City studio, she specialises in her two great loves, cats and Victorian architecture. Her paintings are exhibited in galleries all over the United States, from Miami to Los Angeles. Her work is part of permanent and museum collections worldwide.
American Victorian houses show a distinct British influence. Mainly built during the reign of Queen Victoria (1840-1901) this type of residential architecture can be found all over America. Elements borrowed from the Gothic, Italianate and Queen Anne period can also be included in the elaborate and eclectic designs of these unique houses.

Also known as American, or Italian Bracket Style as many were built in rectangular form with sloping roofs and deep overhanging eaves supported by corbels. Usually constructed from stone or brick with two or three stories. Its elegant design features tall, slim windows with rounded tops and intricate decorations.
