Two Pairs Of Scottish Red Stag Antlers On Shields Balmoral Estate VINTAGE
Two pairs of Scottish red stag antlers mounted on heraldic shields. Harvested on the Balmoral Estate, Scotland in 1983 and 1985. Each shield has profile edging and is made of wood. Two white plaques with black lettering are fitted on the display sides, showing provenance initials, harvest date, location and weight. The provenance is marked in pencil script on the rear side of both shields.
Both sets were harvested on the Balmoral Estate by Sir Michael Oswald, GCVO (1934-2021). He was Director of the Royal Studs to Queen Elizabeth II from 1970-2000, and racing manager to The Queen Mother from 1970 to 2002.
The Balmoral estate was originally purchased for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in 1852. With a size of more than 50,000 acres the estate supports a variety of wildlife. The Royal Family have always enjoyed rural traditions and frequently invited guests to join them on these outings. Nowadays Balmoral Castle and estate are privately owned by King Charles III.
It is most unusual to find two pairs of antlers from this famous Royal estate with such fine provenance.
These two traditional hunting trophies, or taxidermy, are in excellent condition, ideal for wall decoration.
